Default Will Guild Wars 2 be more Science Fiction based?

Based on the pictures in PC Gamer Magazine..
I thought that they were more Science Fiction-ish than Traditional Fantasy. I love fantasy and I would probably be disappointed that Guild Wars 2 will introduce guns and bombs and be less inclined to buy it. I read the magazine and I thought that the magazine said somewhere that you would be able to make things explode? I don't know if by exploding, they mean Fire Magic or man-made explosives. Anyways, what would you guys think if there was alot more science-fiction in Guild Wars 2 rather than Fantasy?

I wouldn't call that scifi, it's steampunk. I think they'll pull it off in a way that'll work. Frankly, being hundreds of years in the future- it would be rather surprising if they didn't advance technologically.

Umm no. Primitive technology does not equal to science fiction. And I saw no guns or bombs in that article at all. The only thing that was remotely anything science fiction-like was a flying ship with sails. I dont know where you're getting all this from...

That's SF^^?
I thought SF is like Alien, Halo and etc.

Maybe, cause there will be Asuras = P.
And it will be based 100 yrs after the event = P.
Lastly there are already gunpowder in GW = P.
Naming "Luxon Turtles", "Shiverpeaks" and lastly the upcomming "Asuras"^^ = P.

It just seems that people are grasping at ANY reason to say how they won't like GW2. Seriously, the article has shown NOTHING that suggests that it's science fiction at all.

I agree with Knightsaber....not scifi at all, just a slight doze of steamfunk, as you could already see in sorrows furnace for example....I just love Dociu`s concepts <3 !

I loves me some steampunk. My fondest hope is for the gnomes - oh sorry, 'Asura' - to carry primitive bazookas and ride awesome underground destructo-trains.

I wouldn't bet on it.

Steampunk would be cool though.

No way to tell what the main theme(s) will be, but I'd be willing to bet guns are involved somewhere. I mean, Kournans have those giant siege pistols, so give it 300 years of evolution and you at least have a blunderbuss.

yeah I don't know how people miss these things... Dwarves showed they have technological advances in hardcore mechanics, Sorrows Furnace ring any bells?

anyway, even if people are excited as I am after hearing real info for the future of GW, they need to shut it, answers are available, READ the other threads...

It's only set in the future so that it's a time when humans aren't so dominant and common anymore.

That may be why they chose to set it in the future, but there would still have to be a degree of technological advancement for it to seem like time had actually passed.

Maybe some people got the wrong impression because the magazine stated something about "solar-paneled" roofs on one of the concept arts. I think it's just Dociu's work and we'll remain in a fantasy setting.

Also, from what i understood there will be more of the dwarves who seem to be the ones with the advanced technology.

issac asimov and piers anthony have some realy good rants about the differences between sci fi and fantasy, hunt them down if you care, I assume no one does so I'll move on

steampunk would make me immensly happy, here's why

in neal stephenson's "the diamond age" you see steam punk represented as hypertechnological, nanotech, even probably post cyberpunk

in things like final fantasy you get <in some cases> a MUCH less technological feeling out of the thing <though there always is some savant>

the thing is it can run the gamut and is a VERY flexible artistic style

now say it with me "era is an artistic descision"

I'm happy with the work the art people on GW have done thus far, they're the only people I have no complaints against I think

Usually, there seems to be a lack technological ambition in fantasy worlds full of magic. You can jump ahead in time a thousand years, the technology will still be medeval. Why make a computer when you can ask a local seer to predict the future? Why have a flametrower when you can use meteor already? Who needs a tank when you can just find a bonder?
